Hyderabadi Dalcha - Hyderabadi kaddu ka dalcha is one of the popular dal/lentil based curry, this dalcha can be prepared by adding vegetables or by adding non veg. We can add veggies like bottle gourd, drumsticks, brinjal in dals like chana dal or by combining toor dal and chana dal or masoor dal/ red lentils to prepare this dalcha. We can prepare by adding garam masala and some spices or you can prepare it without too. Today I am sharing by adding spices. In this kaddu ka dalcha is very popular and I am sharing kaddu ka dalcha recipe. This is most requested recipe by my brother "Ajay Prabhu". Who d't like Hyderbadi Dum Biryani recipe, I miss many Hyderabad days and family, friends I meet and I spent time with them. Hopefully I will meet all of them very soon 😍.
In our life journey we taste many food and it touch our heart, this is one such recipe. We even do not remember the person who treated us but the taste will remain on taste buds for long, what ??? you d't remember taste like that??? then you are not foodie like me 😉. This recipe is introduced by one of my friend/ bench mate Anu Hyderabad institute. When asked I her mom she gave recipe, which was in mind till date and yes that time I d't know cooking but I noted it😂. That day aunty was scolding my friend on phone he never asked recipe in her life and learn something from me 😎. When my Ajay anna asked to share this recipe I was excited and thought to share video soon. I thought to share video and blog at once but unfortunately every time something missing(some clips in my video)and I was not satisfied with output not taste. Ingredients
bottle gourd pieces - 1 cup
chana dal - 1/2 cup
toor dal - 1/2 cup
roughly chopped onions - 1 cup
finely chopped tomatoes - 1/2 cup
ginger-garlic paste - 1 tsp
tamarind - lemon size
green chillies -2
curry leaves - 3 sprig
finely chopped coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
cumin seeds - 1 tsp
coriander powder - 1 tsp
cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
red chilli powder - 1 tsp(adjust)
turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
garam masala - 1 tsp
oil -2 tsp
ghee - 2tsp
cardamom/ elachi - 1
clove- 1
dalchini/ cinnamon stick - 1 inch
bay leaf - 2
red chilli -2(optional)
Instructions
1) Wash and soak both dals in enough water for 30 min.
2) Also soak tamarind in hot water for 15 min, remove its pulp and keep it aside.
3) Pressure chana dal and toor dal for 5 whistles, let the pressure comes down naturally. Check the dal consistency, it must smooth paste. Otherwise grind it smoothly or mash it well.
4) Now pressure cook bottle gourd by adding 1/4 cup of water and little salt for 1 whistle. Let the pressure comes down naturally and then keep it aside. Do not through bottle gourd cooked water.
5) Mean while heat ghee and oil in a kadai, then add cumin seeds fry till you get nice aroma.
6) Then add elachi, clove, dalchini and bay leaf fry till you get nice aroma.
7) Later add green chillies, curry leaves fry for few seconds. Then add onions, little salt fry till it changes color color, later add ginger & garlic paste to it and fry it well.
8) Now add tomatoes mix everything well and cook it by closing lid till tomatoes become mushy.
9) Meanwhile add tamarind pulp in cooked and mashed dal paste and mix everything well.
10) Now add turmeric poser, red chilli powder, coriander & cumin powders, salt and mix everything well.
11)Later add cooked bottle gourd in onion tomato gravy, mix everything well. Close the lid and cook it on low flames for 10 min till bottle gourd absorbs gravy.
12) Now add dal & tamarind mixture to the above bottle gourd gravy mix everything well.
13) Add 1 cup of water adjust water consistency as per requirement, add salt if need. Also add finely chopped coriander leaves, 2 springs of curry leaves as it is.
14) Close the lid and cook it for 10 min on low flames.
That's it our kaddu ka dalcha is ready to serve. Taking it into serving bowl and add 1 tsp of ghee to get extra taste 😋😋.
