Rasam is also called charu in Telugu, saaru in kannada prepared using tamarind pulp, tomato and with rasam powder. Veggie which we can add in rasam is drumstick. Drumsticks cooked along with tomato and tamarind juice gives good sour taste. Today I am using Homemade Rasam powder which is very flavourful and tasty. I used boiled toor dal in this drumstick rasam which makes rasam so tasty and healthy.

Boiled Toor dal - 1/2 cup(optional)
Tomatoes - 2
Drumstick - 1
Tamarind - small lemon size
Green chilli - 1
Coriander leaves - 2
Rasam powder - 11/2 to 2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
For tempering
Oil--1 tsp
Ghee - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
tsp(chopped)
Hing - 1 pinch
Instructions
1) soak toor dal 30 min and boil it for 5 whistles and keep it ready. Soak tamarind in water.
2) Wash, peel drumstick slightly and cut into 1 to 2 inch pieces.
3) Take a pan add 1/2 tsp of oil add chopped tomatoes and green chillies, fry it on medium flames.
4) Now add slat, turmeric powder to the above and cook till tomatoes becomes smooth.
5) Now add drumstick pieces to the above and mix everything well.
6) Now add 1 glass of water(adjust) to the above and boil the drumstick on low flames by closing lid.
7) Check drumsticks, it will boil in min 5 min.
8) Extract tamarind juice and add it to the above.
9) Now add boiled toor dal to the above and mix everything well.
10) Add 1 cup of water to the above(adjust) and 11/2 tsp of Homemade rasam powder and mix everything well.
11) Boil the above on medium flames by closing half lid.
12) Add chopped coriander leaves to the above. Drumstick rasam is ready, now it's time for tempering. Take a small pan add oil, ghee once oil gets heat add all ingredients mentioned in tempering one after other and fry it.
13) Add the seasoning into drumstick rasam and switch off the flames.
Spicy, tasty and healthy drumstick rasam is ready to serve 😋😋. Have it with hot steamed rice with dollop of ghee and enjoy Ur day.
Note
* Adjust water, tamarind and rasam powder as per your requirement.
* You can also use tomato pure instead of pieces.
*You can also use ready-made rasam powder too.
Tips
** Using toor dal make rasam tasty and healthy.
** Using Ghee for tempering while enhances rasam taste.
** You can also cook /boil drumsticks separately and add into tomatoes. But cooking drumsticks along with tomatoes makes drumsticks tasty.

Today i had drumstick rasam with rice, boiled toor dal, Ghee/mudda pappu and neyyi(in telugu). Rasam is must in South Indian meals, and that too drumstick rasam is very tasty. My dad loves to drink rasam, it cures cough, cold and makes digestive system free. As the spices used in rasam powder, we can prepare rasam powder freshly while preparing rasam.
