Flax seeds podi, అవిసె గింజల పొడి, flax seeds chutney podi

 Flax seeds podi, Flax seeds chutney powder with tips and video. Flax seeds also known as avise ginjalu in Telugu, aali vithai in Tamil, agase bijagalu in Kannada. We South Indians love to have different varieties of podi's , this flax seeds podi is one in that. It is very healthy, tasty and easy to prepare. Though we can prepare this podi in many ways, today I am sharing my version podi recipe,  which tastes good with breakfasts like idli, dosa, upma, roti's.        In busy days we can also prepare quick rice item using this flax seeds podi. I regularly prepare  Flax seeds podi rice with masala aloo jeera fry for hubby lunch box. Whenever we have heavy breakfast or when we want prepare any simple rice item then flax seeds podi rice is the best option. Event : Shhhhh Secretly cooking challenge


Taking this healthy and tasty flax seeds chutney podi recipe  to "Shhhhh Secretly cooking challenge" fb group started by Priya, and taken further till date by Mayuri di ND Renu. I liked curried chickpea stuffed sweet potatoes recipe shared by Mayuri di. I also saved Renu's steamed broccoli vadi recipe to try soon. We completed recipes from all states from A to Z, so now admin team and members decided a new interesting way for monthly theme that is - one group member in alphabetical order will suggest theme. Later admin team will pair interested members, then we share 2 secret ingredients among us and prepare recipe using it and all other members will guess it.

                                     


 This month theme Stick to seeds was suggested by Archana, who blogs at "themadscientistkitchen",  I like her style of sharing detailed informative in every post. I also bookmarked her  khubani ka meetha recipe to try,. This month I'm paired with Sasmita sahoo, who blogs at "firsttimercook", check out her space for authentic Odisha recipes. She shared Chana dal and red chili as secret ingredients, I prepared this tasty flax seeds podi. In turn I gave yogurt and jamun as secret ingredients, she prepared yummy Jamun smoothie with mixed seeds recipe.

                         Flax seeds podi

Preparation time : 15 minutes
Cook Time : 15 minutes
Serves : 250gms +
Category : Podi
Recipe Cuisine: Indian 
Main ingredients : Flax seeds

Ingredients

Flax seeds - 1 cup
Urad dal - 1/4 cup
Chana dal - 1/4 cup
Coriander seeds - 1/4 cup
Grated dry coconut - 1/4 cup
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/8 tsp
Byadigi red chilli  - 10
Guntur red chilli - 10
Garlic - 1 pod
Curry leaves - 1/2 cup or fist full
Tamarind- small lemon size
Oil - 2 tsp
Salt - as per taste

Instructions 

1)  Firstly dry fry coriander seeds on low to medium flames till you get nice aroma and then take it into plate.

2) Now dry fry both urad dal and Chana dal till they changes color and then take into same plate.

3) Later dry fry fenugreek and  cumin seeds on low flames till u get nice aroma and take into plate.

4) Now dry fry flax seeds on low to medium flames, when seeds starts popping out take it into separate plate.

5) Later add oil to this add both varieties of red chillies and fry for a minute and then take into plate.

6) Lastly fry curry leaves, garlic and tamarind and then take into plate.

7) Let all the ingredients cool to room temperature.

8) Later grind all the fry ingredients other than flax seeds and garlic to fine powder by adding required amount of salt.

9) Now add flax seeds, garlic and grind it coarsely.

10) Take prepared flax seeds podi into plate and let it cool to room temperature.

11) Later store this podi in dry and air tight container.
 

               

  That's it our flax seeds chutney podi is ready. Serve this with any breakfasts or even with hot steamed rice and dollop of ghee. D't forgot to check this recipe in our youtube channel Vasus vegkitchen.  

 Tips

** In order to increase shell life of podi, store it in dry and air tight container.

** Use good quality dry coconut to get good taste to podi. 

** Dry frying ingredients increase podi shell life.

  1. Flaxseed podi is an amazing idea. My son loves podi rice with a dollop of ghee. Would make it for him, whenever he visits us next. It's a wonderful way of incorporating flaxseeds in our diet.

  3. Flaxseed podi ends up in my plate with a lot of oil. I love the flavours especially with hot rice and I'm drooling. Then I use flaxseed podi as a masala too so this podi you made here is definitely on my to do list.

  8. I am always on the lookout for different podi recipes. My son loves them with hot rice and a dollop of ghee. Loved the addition of flaxseeds to podi. It makes it healthier and tastier as roasted flaxseeds add a nutty flavor. T
